The 1998 Hawai'i International Chess Festival

Our website, http://www.chessworks.com has all the latest information.
Right now we have 17 Grandmasters committed, led by Nigel Short, Alex Yermolinksy, Joel Benjamin and Tal Shaked.
The 1998 Hawai'i International Chess Festival incorporates both the United States Open and the United States Masters chess tournaments. The "Chess Vacation of a Lifetime" offers affordable chess experiences in paradise, lasting from 3 days to 3 weeks!
Unlike most tournaments, which are designed to make profits for the organizer from entry fees, the Hawai'i International Chess Festival relies on advertising and sponsorship to keep your costs down, so instead of outrageous entry fees, you can spend your money enjoying all the splendors of the Islands. We are organizing daily activities, from hiking to snorkeling to just relaxing on beautiful secluded beaches. We've arranged discounts on everything from hotels, meals and entry fees to snorkeling and diving adventures. Visit the mighty Kilauea Volcano, snorkel off the Kona Coast, see Pearl Harbor all in affordable group trips. Many of our activities cost just $1! Visit our web site http://www.chessworks.com for more details on this unique chess vacation! Here are the basic facts.

We have already confirmed the participation of over a dozen International Grandmasters, including World Championship challenger Nigel Short, US Champion Joel Benjamin, World Junior Champion Tal Shaked, US Open Champion Alex Yermolinsky, US Masters Champion Suat Atalik. We have also invited many of the top women and junior players in the world. An updated list of participants is at http://www.chessworks.com/events/98events/98usopen/whoplays.htm.
Our special training clinics, held throughout the festival, feature such distinguished trainers as GM Leonid Shamkovich, GM Ian Rogers, GM Raymond Keene, GM Eduard Gufeld, IM John Watson, IM John Donaldson and IM Rafael Klovsky. We hope to be able to bring GM Evgeny Sveshnikov to teach courses on the Sveshnikov Sicilians (c3 or ...e5). Many of the GMs will be available for private instruction, too.
